First big change is to get on to right away to help your body save it self from high sugar that has been running berserk and doing body damage...Start with learning to AUTOMATICALLY drink 10-12 glasses of room temperature good water a day. (not essential but we suggest you let city water sit in a pitcher, 24 hours to get rid of chlorine that is killing your essential gut bacteria.)
These are all simple things that cost you
nothing but will change your life, just get in the habit. ...(life style
change we call it) Begin in the morning with 2 full glasses of water to
hydrate your body from the overnight dehydration. A diabetic self
defense for high sugar is lots of water (well hydrated) so your body can
readily pee out high sugar when it needs to. We suggest one of the FULL
glasses of water you drink first thing is mixed with one table spoon of Pysillium. Most people know this as Metamucil. If you do nothing else for your diabetes self protection, this one is basic. Get the water intake up there so you do it automatically....Never stay thirsty and a full glass or two ever time you feel even slightly thirsty. If your pee is yellow you are still not drinking enough. Many mistake thirst as hunger and eat. Feel like you should be eating? Drink a full glass of water, and check in five minutes, likely your hunger is gone. A lot of fat people, just need this one little thing (cross thirst wired wrong) showing up and interpreted as hunger. Self Fix. 2. Your concentrated refined carbohydrates intake should be almost nil, since FLOUR AND SUGAR, or anything with even a trace are off your list. A cigarette smoker quitting says just a couple of puffs wont kill me, but he is kidding him self...either quit...cold turkey completely or you are still and going to continue to be an uncontrolled sugar addict. No artificial sweeteners, they are doing more to add to your problems. Compared to most artificial sweeteners, sugar is health food (stevia, only exception) sober up, like an alcoholic getting off booze, be aware you are going thru pain (agony) for 21 days, getting over sugar withdrawal addiction symptoms. Perfectly normal to want to cheat.... be strong... you are a grown adult that can stay out of the cookie jar. Okay, so you have to eat something and your excuse it is the only thing around to eat. So clean your food supply out.. do not have around what you no longer eat. Throw it out, this takes courage. If it is not around you can not eat it. Stock up and have every where what you CAN now eat. Message for spouse living with Diabetic, you are in this together. If you were a smoker and your partner was trying to quit smoking, you wouldn't blow smoke in their face. You want to avoid cereal particularly of wheat except the bulk wheat bran which is okay. Oats and whole barley and bulk bran work, in fact we make a cereal mixture of bran and include Quino, a grain from the high altitude Andes, also non gluten, as well as ground flax seed mixed with dark coca unsweetened and use no milk with it, negates the benefits. I also add yogurt and cinnamon, we recommend no dairy except yogurt and butter, ( best is grass fed) Yogurt is fermented and digestible by man. You wont be able to make all these adjustments over night but get them working soon as you can. Vegetables are your new main stay and eat as much as you want except avoid root vegetables such as potatoes etc. Raw carrots and onions digest slowly and are still okay but a diabetic can not handle the cooked version as they put sugar into the blood stream too fast. Fruits are almost the same and must be eaten very sparingly, such as 5 or 6 grapes. if at all. Too much sugar too fast, (is called high glycemic) Choose above ground green leafy vegetables, broccoli, cabbage, asparagus, brussels sprouts, squash etc, the more colorful the vegetable, the more anti-oxidant is inside and the better it is for you. Eat all raw you can and the best cooking method is steaming. Put on apple cider vinegar for salads and add flax seed oil, coconut oil and olive oil. Low glycemic index type fruit. such as Blueberries. and Avocados are ideal diabetic foods eaten daily. Avoid fruit juices and generally get over the idea of "drinking food". Walnuts, brazil nuts, almonds etc readily available and eaten all day long for snacks, this works and do not worry about this fat, you need all you can get. (avoid peanuts, cashews) Have these nuts available everywhere you go for snacks.We have mentioned grass fed eggs and meat (as soon as you can arrange a source for grass fed butter, eggs and meat the better, do the best you can til then.) Eggs are a mainstay and eat all you want. the least cooked the better, raw best. Carry boiled eggs on trips etc. they do not need to be refrigerated. Read up on and learn to make Pemmican which was the mainstay the American Indians, and pioneers lived on away from home. Weekly eat At least 8 oz of cold water deep sea fish such as salmon (no farmed fish) or tuna and carry sardines as a snack once a week at least. This will provide the body with the necessary omega 3 fatty acid as well as protein. Stay away from fresh water or costal water fish which can be contaminated.Free range chicken, buffalo, beef etc good source of protein and fat. Plan on eating more meat and fat. Keep in mind you have now stopped being a sugar eating and burning system and have switched to fat burning so pretty much eat all the good fat you want, it is what is "filling" and satisfies your appetite. 'Formerly you were an eat sugar and turn it into stored fat. Now you will be a burn fat as you go so just be sure and avoid and stay away from polyunsaturated man made vegetable oils such as corn oil, safflower oil, and sunflower oil. margarine, crisco etc. Absolutely avoid trans-fat that is found in most restaurant food, margarine, cookies, and pastries etc It is the absolute worse type of fat, and is used by restaurants to improve shelf life of produced in advance meals etc. You will find eating high fat such as nuts etc, avocado etc you do not need to eat as much to feel satisfied. Remember, this fat is not what your body was storing as fat, it was converting high sugar peaks to fat. As a result of no more sugar flour or high glycemic foods, you no longer have high sugar peaks and you now "burn" fat as an energy source, not store it. 75% of your calories from fat is what your ancestors operated on and still works. (other gurus still recommend 20% fat calories and the rest from carbs and still can not figure out why all these counting calorie, measuring and parceling out food diets do not work and their clients get more obese.) Within a year your body will arrive at and settle down to the weight it was designed for. Since you have practically eliminated sugar peaks in your diet and learned to "blend and modify input" your diabetes will settle down as "controlled". Your life expectancy will be greatly enhanced. and for the first time, you will look like the "real you".
